Visio Mentis arrives in Mantua: photography as a crossing of the gaze
Visio Mentis: A new step, not a replica
After the journey begun in Calabria, Visio Mentis takes a decisive step: it arrives in Mantua, in the heart of one of Italy’s most stratified historical contexts.
This exhibition is not a simple extension of the project. It is a crossing.
Taking Visio Mentis beyond its original territory means testing it, opening it to dialogue, exposing it to a new perspective.
And, at the same time, measuring its ability to remain faithful to its original direction.
The place: history, water, passage
The exhibition is held at the Pescherie di Giulio Romano, an extraordinary 16th-century architectural complex designed in 1536 by order of Federico II Gonzaga.
Originally a public space linked to commerce, overlooking the Rio, the Pescherie are today a place of connection and culture, where water, architecture, and human passage continue to dialogue.
It’s not a detail.
Visio Mentis enters a space that, by its very nature, is already a crossing: between inside and outside, between city and flow, between history and present.
Photography as an experience, not as consumption.
In this context, photography shifts position.
It is no longer an image to be quickly observed, but an experience to be traversed.
The projects on display come from different geographies and sensibilities, but they share a common tension: rejecting simplification. They don’t seek effect. They don’t seek immediate consensus. They don’t try to explain everything.
