Biography
Saverio Oliva
Santa Domenica Talao – Italy
Saverio Oliva, who lives in Santa Domenica Talao (CS), a small village overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea on the edge of the Pollino National Park, has cultivated a strong artistic sensibility since adolescence. Over the years, he has devoted himself to the creation of artistic nativity scenes, stage sets, drawing, and restoration work, contributing significantly to the cultural life of his community. Photography entered his life through his father and soon became his primary expressive language.
In his work, light is not merely a technical tool but a true poetic substance: it shapes faces, sculpts atmospheres, and reveals the inner dimension of the subjects, giving rise to portraits that are intense, intimate, and deeply rooted in the Mediterranean visual tradition.

The Project
“Borrowed Bodies”
The set is often composed of decaying environments, crumbling buildings, dust, and rubble, where everything is constructed to serve as a backdrop rather than a protagonist. A body, a lens, and behind it the attentive eye of Saverio Oliva. Light and shadow cut decisively across the scene, or gently trace outlines and forms. According to some cultures, the photograph itself is associated with the idea of stealing the soul; the author, instead, steals nothing. On the contrary, he enriches and gives, endowing his “borrowed bodies” with a new essence through his personal interpretation.

This exhibition at Ex-Stac in Catanzaro, Italy was a wonderful experience, and I was truly honored to be invited to take part and share my work alongside so many talented artists. The show brings together a diverse range of photographic styles, making it a rich and inspiring collection.

The exhibit at the Museo Diocesano in Tropea was a beautiful blend of history and contemporary vision. Each photographer brought their own style, ranging from street photography to nature and wildlife, creating a diverse yet harmonious collection.
The centuries-old setting added depth and reverence, making the images feel timeless and giving the exhibit a unique and lasting impact.

I am very happy to be able to participate in the photography exhibition in Tropea – Italy, thank you very much to Marcello who has arranged everything. The exhibition went smoothly, and it was nice to see the videos during the exhibition. Marcello sent me photos of my exhibit to my country Indonesia and I was very happy to see it, as well as the catalogue book and barcodes as well. I hope to be able to participate in another photo exhibition. Thank you for your hard work so this photography exhibition can be done well.
