Biography
Semion Ribinik
Migdal Ha-Emeq – Israel
Semion Ribinik, born in 1960 and raised in Riga, Latvia, completed his higher education with a degree in thermal power engineering. His passion for photography began at an early age, when he first picked up a camera at just 11 years old, taking his first photographs during family trips and walks with friends. In 1990, he moved with his family to Israel, where he began working in his professional field. However, his passion for photography never left him: the camera has become an integral part of his life, to the point that he feels uncomfortable without it. His preferred photographic genres are street photography and street portraits. Semion regularly takes part in photography competitions both in Israel and abroad, and has held several solo exhibitions, consolidating his artistic vision on the international scene.

The Project
“The Human Heart of the City”
In this photographic series, Semion Ribinik goes beyond the simple documentation of everyday life in Israel, moving toward a deeper exploration: capturing the genius loci — the authentic spirit of a place. The project focuses not so much on architecture, but on people, understood as the true custodians of a territory’s essence.
Through images taken at different moments and in various Israeli cities, Ribinik composes a human mosaic of strong narrative power. Each frame highlights individuals whose lives are inextricably woven into the living fabric of the land they inhabit.
The images do not merely record a passing moment, but seek to interpret the soul of cities through the eyes and hands of their inhabitants. The project reveals how the identity of a place emerges from a constant dialogue between urban space and human presence, transforming ordinary scenes into testimonies of a collective spirit.
“The Human Heart of the City” is, ultimately, a tribute to the resilience and vitality of Israel, told through the faces of those who, every day, write its invisible history.

The exhibit at the Museo Diocesano in Tropea was a beautiful blend of history and contemporary vision. Each photographer brought their own style, ranging from street photography to nature and wildlife, creating a diverse yet harmonious collection.
The centuries-old setting added depth and reverence, making the images feel timeless and giving the exhibit a unique and lasting impact.

The exhibition in March 2025 at Ex Stac in Catanzaro, which was the part of the Visio Mentis project, was an amazing event for me. The whole organizing team did a wonderful professional job in promoting photography as an art and photographers as the personalities. Seeing my own photos exhibited in the beautiful setting and having the opportunity to share my thoughts with other colleagues photographers and the audience was an unforgettable experience for me that I still enjoy for a long time after the exhibition is over. I am proud to have been a part of this project and at the same time it is an inspiration for me to continue searching for my own vizio mentis. Thank you very much for your support.
