Biography

Christophe Boch

Strasbourg – France

Christophe Boch, a French photographer based in Strasbourg, does not like to define himself simply as a photographer. He prefers to say that his eye is there to capture the emotions that everyday life constantly offers and that, too often, we are not ready to perceive. He seeks to freeze moments meant to be shared through a unique and unconventional vision of ordinary life. A self-taught street photographer, what he loves most about photography is the “hunt”: that moment when the gaze sharpens, when one manages to seize something just an instant before it disappears forever. Boch observes the world like an alert animal, while always maintaining a deeply humanistic approach in his work.

He works exclusively in black and white, with deliberately intense and incisive post-production. His aim is not to embellish reality, but to reveal what he truly perceives with his “different” eye. He enjoys bringing out raw textures, palpable tension, and hidden light within everyday urban scenes. For him, photography is a personal way of moving through reality, of giving it meaning and, at times, even discovering within it a kind of wild and unexpected poetry.

The Project

"The Train of Life"

In Christophe Boch’s work, railway stations cease to be mere transportation infrastructures and become places of the soul. In this series, the author explores the station as a space of pure transition: a non-judgmental “non-place” that welcomes everything travelers carry with them — the weight of lived experience at the moment of arrival and the momentum of hope at the instant of departure.

The project focuses on those moments of waiting in which time seems to stretch. Within these suspended spaces, Boch captures the essence of stories that flow unspoken and of glances that meet in anonymity. Yet the photographer’s goal is not to document the physical journey, but to reveal the inner journey: the silent dialogue each individual conducts with their own conscience along the tracks of their existence.

Through his lens, stations become moments of clarity and awareness within the often chaotic flow of life. Necessary stops along a predetermined path, allowing for a profound reconnection with oneself. Places where, after the silence of waiting, one departs toward their destination feeling “a little more present, a little more alive.”

The Train of Life is an invitation to look beyond the frenzy of transit, to glimpse the beauty and the sacredness of the moment in which we pause to reflect on who we are and where we are heading.

The exhibit at the Museo Diocesano in Tropea was a beautiful blend of history and contemporary vision. Each photographer brought their own style, ranging from street photography to nature and wildlife, creating a diverse yet harmonious collection.
The centuries-old setting added depth and reverence, making the images feel timeless and giving the exhibit a unique and lasting impact.

The exhibition in March 2025 at Ex Stac in Catanzaro, which was the part of the Visio Mentis project, was an amazing event for me. The whole organizing team did a wonderful professional job in promoting photography as an art and photographers as the personalities. Seeing my own photos exhibited in the beautiful setting and having the opportunity to share my thoughts with other colleagues photographers and the audience was an unforgettable experience for me that I still enjoy for a long time after the exhibition is over. I am proud to have been a part of this project and at the same time it is an inspiration for me to continue searching for my own vizio mentis. Thank you very much for your support.
