Biography
Ilaria Siddi
Genoa – Italy
Ilaria Siddi, a freelance photographer based in Genoa, approaches photography as a tool for inner exploration and healing. Her artistic research avoids pure rationality, allowing itself to be guided by a visual imagination deeply shaped by years of immersion in sci-fi, horror, and dystopian literature and cinema.
Her view of the world is filtered through a subtle sense of detachment, almost a “veil over the eyes” that transforms reality into something not fully graspable. This perception, combined with a constant sense of anxiety, finds in photography a cathartic and therapeutic function, becoming a refuge and a source of relief in moments of greater complexity.
Two seemingly opposing forces coexist in Ilaria’s style: Order, with a strong attraction to rigorous geometries and fixed points that give structure to the image, and Instinct, expressed through a vision of humanity in which people appear almost always small, distant, or blurred, like figures lost in a vast and incomprehensible world.
Professionally, Ilaria works independently and collaborates regularly with a photography studio for wedding documentation. When she is not holding her Canon, she nurtures her inspiration through travel, reading, and a close relationship with nature, marked by long walks with her dog through the landscapes of Liguria.
For Ilaria Siddi, photographing is not merely documenting an instant, but translating into images that subtle boundary between presence and absence, between the real and the imagined.

The Project
“Thresholds of Light”
The photographic project Thresholds of Light unfolds through a sequence of six black-and-white images that explore the subtle boundary between physical limitation and sensory perception. At the core of Ilaria Siddi’s visual research lies the dialogue between the human presence and space, mediated by elements that fragment vision.
In this work, female faces are never revealed in their entirety: they appear filtered through shattered glass or deceptive reflections, creating a narrative composed of suspended gazes. These figures engage in dialogue with natural and urban landscapes, which lose their purely descriptive function to become symbolic spaces and emotional projections.
The rigorous use of black and white allows the artist to suspend time, eliminating the distraction of color in order to focus on the purity of form, the drama of contrasts, and the intensity of atmospheres. Thresholds of Light is, ultimately, an invitation to slow and meditative observation. Each photograph stands as a true threshold—a point of passage where the viewer is called to look beyond the barrier, exploring the precarious balance between what is manifest and what remains concealed in the shadow of the invisible.

The exhibit at the Museo Diocesano in Tropea was a beautiful blend of history and contemporary vision. Each photographer brought their own style, ranging from street photography to nature and wildlife, creating a diverse yet harmonious collection.
The centuries-old setting added depth and reverence, making the images feel timeless and giving the exhibit a unique and lasting impact.

The exhibition went smoothly, and it was nice to see the videos during the exhibition. Marcello sent me photos of my exhibit to my country Indonesia and I was very happy to see it, as well as the catalogue book and barcodes as well. I hope to be able to participate in another photo exhibition. Thank you for your hard work so this photography exhibition can be done well.
