Biography
Gershon Gilat
Kochave Yair – Israel
For over forty years, photography has remained a karst river in Gershon Gilat’s life, a silent stream confined to the margins of a solid career as a university professor. The author’s first steps date back to adolescence, when, to buy his first camera and darkroom equipment, he began picking up odd jobs during school holidays. Although he abandoned silver salts after high school to devote himself to academic studies, the spark never faded. The real turning point came about nine years ago: having reduced his workload at university, Gilat returned to the lens, but it was an eight-day trip to the heart of Transylvania, among the Roma communities, that radically redefines his expressive focus. Struck by anthropological photography, the professor transformed into a tireless cultural explorer, converting the camera into a tool of social investigation aimed at documenting the profound identity of the streets of the world.

The Project
"Human Moments in World Markets"
Markets are much more than simple places of commerce. They are spaces where people continue to meet, talk, observe, and share a part of their daily lives.
Through images taken in various countries around the world, Gershon Gilat narrates the human dimension that develops between vendors, customers, artisans, and workers. His photographs focus on the ordinary gestures that make every relationship possible: an exchange, a glance, a word, a moment of mutual attention.
In an age increasingly dominated by technology and virtual distance, markets maintain a form of direct contact that continues to define community life. It is precisely this shared presence that the project aims to document.
The images don’t just tell the story of places. They tell the story of people. And they remind us that, everywhere in the world, human connection remains one of the most precious elements of our daily experience.

Participating in the Visio Mentis exhibition was a truly special experience for me. When I received the invitation, I felt both honored and grateful. Photography has been an important part of my life for many years, and having the opportunity to exhibit my work alongside talented photographers from around the world was something I deeply appreciated. My series, The Human Heart of the City, is about people, everyday moments, and the invisible connections that make a city feel alive. Seeing these images become part of an international exhibition and the official catalogue was incredibly rewarding. What I enjoyed most about Visio Mentis was the feeling of being part of a community of artists who share a passion for visual storytelling. Despite coming from different countries and cultures, we all speak the same language through photography. I would like to sincerely thank the organizers for their trust, professionalism, and dedication. And I must add one more thing: as someone who loves Italy, this experience was even more meaningful and memorable for me. Thank you for making me part of this wonderful project.

Vďaka tomu bolo milé vidieť, koľko ľudí má záujem o fotografiu ako takú a koľko fotografií a selfie s našimi fotografiami vzniká.

L’aventure continue.

While uploading photos online, I saw an announcement from Pixel magazine inviting photographers to participate in a photography exhibition. I followed the advice of a photographer friend, to dare to exhibit, I sent the required number of photos and miraculously they were approved. When I saw them posted in the exhibition area, my surprise was great because I did not believe that my works could be exhibited. The other photographers who had participated had remarkable works that I admired. The result of my participation was that I became much more strict in the criticism of my works and much more selective in the selection of my photographs.
